This is a genuine factory 3.5 litre V8 12 seat County Station Wagon, reportedly originally used by Land Rover themselves as a tow car for their show units. We bought it around 15 months ago as a mild restoration project, that typically turned in to a fairly major one. Masses of photos document the rebuild, but in short the restoration encompasses; - new rear quarter chassis - new sill rails - new chassis cross rails - repairs to nearside bulkhead and footwell (see photos) - four brand new doors - new windscreen - new bonnet - professional full body respray in original Chamonix White - new front bumper - new grille - new headlight surrounds - new lights all round - new chassis wiring loom - new badges - new headlining - new genuine 'Wolf' heavy duty steel wheels - new tyres - new track rod ends - new front brakes - new rear prop shaft - new radiator - new head gaskets - new RPi high torque camshaft - new throttle cable - new choke cable - refurbished rocker covers - refurbished inlet manifold - refurbished air intake - new various new hoses and clips - new alternator - new battery - new Magnecor HT leads - new RPI engineering power amplifier - new washer bottle - new washer pumps - new rear wiper motor and arm - new rear door card - new seats from Exmoor Trim in Moorland Green - full sound deadening kit and carpet throughout - new door handles - new keys - new fuel filler cap - new mud flaps - new side steps and rear step - new full tubular stainless steel exhaust system inc manifolds We originally bought this car with the intention of making it MOT passable and selling it. However, the deeper we went it to the work the more we decided it was worthy of a proper job! Later model factory V8 Defenders are very hard to find, particularly with such relatively low mileage. This is a genuine 12 seater County Station Wagon. On the mechanical front, the bottom end of the engine was in fine order meaning only a top end strip down and tune-up was needed to freshen it up. We started with taking the heads off and replacing head gaskets, and then replacing the camshaft with a high torque item from RPI engineering. We replaced the head bolts, shims and set everything correctly. Next we shot blasted and refurbished the inlet manifold, carburettors, air intakes and so on. Carburettors were full y rebuilt with new parts and correctly set up. We finished it off with a new alternator, RPI power amplifier and Magnecor HT leads. The gearbox, transfer box and axles (the rear is a Salisbury) are all in good shape so were left alone. We replaced the rear prop due to play in the universal joint. The rear quarter chassis was untidy so was replaced along with both sill rails and two cross-rails, but otherwise the chassis is remarkably solid. We have not wax oiled it so it can be seen in it's raw state. Fresh was oiling can be done. All four doors were too rotten and untidy to save, so all four were replaced with brand new items. All the original glass (with the numberplate etched in to it) was saved and re-used, as were window mechanisms and door cards where appropriate. All window rubber seals and door seals were replaced with new items after the respray. The new bonnet, wing tops and doors were resprayed in original Chamonix White along with the rest of the shell and roof, together with wheel arches, headlight surrounds and new front grille. We have fully sound proofed the floor and doors with sound deadening material, topped off with new carpet wherever possible and re-used original grey carpet where not. The headlining has been re-trimmed to a better than new standard (it should never sag). Finally we topped off the restoration with new badges, decals, side steps and mud flaps to complete the original look. That is a very brief overview of the rebuild and we will have missed plenty of details. More details can be given to interested parties. This Defender is USA exportable and ready to go, though we'd like to see it stay in the UK! It will be supplied freshly serviced and MOT'd for the new owner. Serious enquiries only please.
